When we started the process to adopt Eli the Lord reminded me of the many instances in the Bible of adoption. He took me back to the banks of the River in Exodus chapter 2 when Moses was born and placed in an ark of bulrushes so he may escape certain death. Along came the Pharaoh's daughter to bathe in the river and there she saw Moses. It says in verse 6 that when she saw the baby she had compassion and she adopted him as her own. So the great patriarch Moses..the man that wrote the law of God on tablets of stone was adopted. In God's sovereign plan He chose to grow baby Moses in his mother's womb at that time in history to save His people and write the 10 commandments.
Then the Lord took me to Esther. She was adopted by her uncle Mordecai and was born to save her people. It states in Esther 4:14 that she was "born for such a time as this." She had lost her parent's and Mordecai her uncle directed her in the plan the Lord had for her before she was conceived.
What about my Lord? What about Jesus? He was born on this earth to his earthly mother Mary, but His father is God. So Jesus the Lord of Heaven and Earth was adopted by his earthly father Joseph. WOW!
We too are spiritually adopted in to the Kingdom of God when we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord. God is our heavenly Father and he calls us sons and we can call Him daddy. Galatians 4:6-7 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!" Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Adoption IS the Father's heart. Jeremy and I have answered a call out of obedience. Not that we are super spiritual and have everything right. We are just committed to following Jesus. It is not easy to be a parent it's quite the opposite. From my experience it is my children that God uses to point out ALL my flaws and sanctify me. This world is passing away and what God has been showing me is how short of a time we have to make a difference. Am I terrified? Yes, some days I am. I think where is the money coming from? Will an older child bond with our family, HOW IN THE WORD am I going to home-school 4 kids? So yes we are weak, but I'm so thankful He is strong. The same God that directed His people throughout history and called them to do HARD things is the same God that is directing us to adoption. He loves the little children and His heart is the heart of adoption.
